Our August 2017 theme was agriculture in schools.
We know that locally grown food helps kids be healthier and higher achievers. We shared information about efforts to help kids eat better and learn more by growing food in schools. There was great information and tips about how to grow healthy food in your own space.
Our August 2017 Speaker
Bryan Vellinga, Owner and Operator of Garden Farms of Nevada
Bryan has been in the landscaping and gardening industry in Las Vegas for over 25 years. After growing up in the beautiful countryside of western Montana, he graduated with a degree in horticulture. He is the former Director of Horticulture at MGM Resort properties, such as Beau Rivage. Bryan has been growing vegetables in the desert for 20 years and has successfully proven an uncanny ability to grow vegetables and fruit trees throughout our harsh desert climates in Nevada. He’s married to the lovely Brittany Vellinga (co-owner and operator of Garden Farms of Nevada) and together they have five beautiful children. He has lived in Las Vegas since 1987. In his spare time, Bryan enjoys fly fishing, food preservation, spending time with his wife and family and (of course) gardening.
