Green building (also called sustainable design) refers to creating facilities that use energy and water in an efficient way. This method of building provides a healthier space for people and the environment. Green building not only refers to the structure itself, it extends to the land use as well. At this month’s meeting, we will hear from the Vice President of Global Sustainability at Las Vegas Sands Corporation, Katarina Tesarova, to discuss how green building is being implemented in the state of Nevada.

Katarina Tesarova serves as vice president of global sustainability for Las Vegas Sands Corp., the leader in sustainability of the hospitality industry. Tesarova leads Sands ECO360, the organization’s comprehensive sustainability strategy focused on reducing its environmental impact.
Prior to joining Las Vegas Sands, Tesarova managed multiple sustainability programs including overseeing one of the country’s largest development projects at the time that resulted in six LEED gold certifications—the world record for the largest new construction LEED-certified project. She has since become a LEED BD+C Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Her dedication and expertise has helped Las Vegas Sands receive numerous awards and accolades from leading industry authorities, including a position in CDP’s Climate A List and a listing in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for industry-leading corporate sustainability efforts in North America.
Though an expert in green buildings, Tesarova also received a law degree from Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a concentration in Finance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She has served on various prestigious panels and committees including the Sustainability and Efficiency Task Force for the United States Department of Homeland Security.
